Ouahigouya: The Governor of the North region, Thomas Yampa, has officially launched the "Patriotic time to green Faso" initiative at the North Regional Council in Ouahigouya. This presidential initiative aims to combat desertification and promote environmental sustainability throughout the Northern region of Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was launched in response to President of Faso's call for national action. The event saw the mobilization of the constituted bodies of the Northern region, who gathered alongside the Governor to mark the beginning of the operation. Governor Yampa emphasized the necessity of this challenge, urging administrative officials from the provinces of Yatenga, Loroum, Passor©, and Zondoma, as well as the local communities, to actively participate in realizing this vision.
Following the ceremonial planting at the Regional Council, which initiated the one-hour planting effort, the Governor encouraged public administration workers, associative structures, development partners, and the general population to engage in individual and collective planting activities. The goal is for the Northern region to set a benchmark in environmental stewardship by the end of the day.
To support the effort, the Northern Regional Directorate for the Environment, Water and Sanitation provided plants free of charge to government agencies and citizens. This strategic move aims to ensure widespread participation and success in transforming the region into a green reference point under the initiative.
