Ioba: Residents of the commune of Gu©gu©r© in Hauts-Bassins have demonstrated their support for local defense forces by donating food worth 300,000 FCFA to the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) and dozos, who are from their commune. The donation, which includes bags of rice, oil, and salt, was presented on Saturday, January 4, to Jacob Bazemo, the prefect and president of the special delegation of Gu©gu©r©, in the presence of local dignitaries and security forces.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the donation was organized following a call from the canton chief, his Majesty T©onan 2. Mathias Dabir©, the representative of the donors, emphasized the community's desire to support the dozos and VDP in their efforts to secure Gu©gu©r©. Dabir© noted that this initiative was a way for residents to participate actively in the fight against terrorism in their region.
The event saw expressions of gratitude from Geoffroy Hien, representing the dozos, and his majesty Debra 2 of Walala, representing the VDP. They highlighted the challenges posed by the vastness and dense vegetation of the area, and how the donation serves as a morale booster, signaling community solidarity in their mission.
The canton chief encouraged unity among the VDP and dozos, emphasizing that cohesion is crucial for their mission's success. He also called upon Gu©gu©r© citizens residing elsewhere to contribute to maintaining the stability achieved so far.
Alexis Ouattara, the communal coordinator of the VDP and lieutenant of water and forests, acknowledged the significant security challenges faced by the largest commune in the Ioba province. He expressed appreciation for the dedication of the VDP and dozos in reclaiming national territory.
Jacob Bazemo, the PDS, commended the patriotism displayed by the people of Gu©gu©r©. He noted it was the first time the VDPs and dozos received such support locally and appealed for similar contributions from other regions to enhance the effectiveness of the defense efforts. Bazemo also highlighted the need for a police station or territorial gendarmerie brigade in Gu©gu©r© to bolster security infrastructure.
