Justice: Boureima Sanga resigns from the Autonomous Union of Magistrates of Burkina (complete and updated dispatch)

Ouagadougou: Boureima Sanga resigned on Tuesday from the bodies of the Autonomous Union of Magistrates of Burkina (SAMAB). The magistrate of exceptional rank says he wants to distance himself from 'an instrument of manipulation' having boycotted the election of members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM), without taking into account the serious consequences for justice and for litigants. The exceptional grade magistrate Boureima Sanga settled his accounts both with the Autonomous Union of Magistrates of Burkina (SAMAB) and with its secretary general Bruno T. Zabsonré, in a single letter. To Mr. Zabsonré, who asked him for a letter of explanation about his participation in the election of members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM), magistrate Sanga drew the attention of supporters of the boycott to the consequences of their act, before slamming the door on SAMAB.According to the advisor to the Court of Appeal of Ouagadougou, the non-functioning of the CSM would lead to the non-integr ation of justice auditors at the end of training, the slowdown in the functioning of the courts due to the lack of additional staff, and prevent certain magistrates from moving to higher ranks.'In a word, the non-functioning of the CSM is causing and will cause more harm to the magistrates that you are supposed to defend as a union, but also to the Burkinabe people who have the right to expect optimal functioning of their justice system. Despite everything, you preferred to call for a boycott, for reasons that only you know,' wrote Boureima Sanga to his colleague Bruno T. Zabsonré.In Mr. Sanga's opinion, the call to boycott a law of the Republic is a decision incompatible with the status of magistrate. In order to protect itself from an 'instrument of manipulation, intended to satisfy the desires of Mr. Zabsonré', Boureima Sanga chose to resign from SAMAB, effective Tuesday July 23, 2024.As a reminder, the inter-union of magistrates of Burkina, which brings together all the body's unions, has given up participating in the election of new members of the CSM to protest against the "non-inclusive reforms" which were adopted by the council of ministers. At the end of the elections of June 29, 2024, Benoit Zoungrana inherited the first rank with Oumarou Zono as his deputy. The exceptional rank went to Adama Nana with Boureima Sanga as his substitute.Source: Burkina Information Agency
