Kourittenga Celebrates African Children’s Day with Calls for Inclusion in Decision-Making

Kourittenga: The NGO Plan International, Center-East and East office in Koup©la, commemorated this Monday, June 16, 2025, in collaboration with the provincial directorate in charge of Humanitarian Action of Kourittenga, the 35th edition of the Day of the African Child. The children's spokesperson called for their consideration in decisions that affect them.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the commemoration of the Day of the African Child was held in the courtyard of the NGO Plan under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the Kourittenga province, Fernand N'Do, who represented the High Commissioner. The event focused on the theme: "Investing in Burkinabe children means building a nation proud of its values."

Rabiatou Sond©, the children's spokesperson, emphasized the need for children's inclusion in decision-making processes. She stated, "For our development, we ask to be taken into account in your actions and programs and to be placed at the center of your decisions concerning us." The children also committed to promoting good practices and embodying civic and patriotic values to contribute to a prosperous and peaceful Burkina Faso.

Mahomet Ou©draogo, director of the NGO Plan International's Koup©la office, highlighted the organization's longstanding commitment to children's rights in Burkina Faso, stressing the importance of working alongside the government to ensure the protection and well-being of children through technical support and resource mobilization.

Fernand N'Do, Secretary General of the Kourittenga province, stressed the need for planning and budgeting for children's rights issues to be institutionalized at all levels. He advocated for strengthening the capacities of local actors and involving children more in decision-making processes that impact their lives.
