Kourittenga: COPROSUR Members Equipped for Disaster Risk Management

Kourittenga: The NGO Welthungerhilfe, through its "TEEL TAABA" project, in collaboration with its local partner, the Zood-Noma Association for Development, initiated a capacity-building workshop on disaster risk management from Tuesday, July 29 to Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Koup©la, for the benefit of members of the Provincial Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (COPROSUR). The workshop took place under the chairmanship of the High Commissioner of the Kourittenga province, Moctar Ilboudo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the members of COPROSUR were equipped, among other things, on the management and reduction of disaster risks, fires, the management of humanitarian crises, and the principles of demobilization of endogenous capacities during the three days.

"This framework has allowed us to gain new experiences in disaster management," said B©atrice Zoundi/Kinda, one of the participants. She is also a school and career guidance counselor at the provincial directorate in charge of secondary education in Kourittenga. For Ms. Zoundi, the initiative is salutary and they, in turn, will work to address the challenges linked to these scourges.

The workshop's communicator, the commander of the Koup©la National Fire Brigade, Captain Simplice Ou©draogo, explained some preventive measures for the population. "I urge the population to strictly respect construction and technical installation standards, to work to clean up their living environment and above all to avoid throwing garbage in the gutters," he said. According to Captain Ou©draogo, these measures will undoubtedly help to minimize the risks of disasters, whether fires or floods.

The High Commissioner of Kourittenga Province, Moctar Ilboudo, President of COPROSUR, expressed satisfaction with what came out of the workshop for the benefit of COPROSUR members. "This session has not only strengthened our capacities but will enable us to anticipate and respond to disasters," said Mr. Ilboudo. The High Commissioner invited the members of COPROSUR to apply the acquired concepts for better disaster management. He also expressed his gratitude to the NGO Welthungerhilfe (WHH) for the initiative.

The meeting is therefore scheduled for September 2025, for the development of a contingency plan.
