Léraba/Environmental holiday camp: Around twenty student campers receive school kits

The High Commissioner of the province of Léraba, Mahamadi Congo, chaired, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in Sindou, the closing of the 10th edition of Camp vacances environment, under the sponsorship of the mining company Wahgnion gold operations (WGO) SA. The first twenty student campers received school kits.In order to instill eco-citizen practices in children and thus train a generation aware of environmental issues for a reversal of the trend towards the degradation of nature, every year since 2015, the provincial directorate in charge of the Environment of Léraba, 2nd province of the Cascades region, organizes an environmental education activity called ''Environmental holiday camp''.Under the theme: 'Environmental education and youth: together, let's act for the climate!', the 10th edition ended on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in Sindou.For a month, the students on vacation immersed themselves in the lessons through field trips and workshops, on civics, the importance of reforestation of trees and non-timber forest products, the impact of certain human activities on the environment but also adequate solutions for its maintenance and preservation for the benefit of present and future generations.Following an assessment of their skills, the first 20 campers each received a complete school kit for the next school year plus a certificate of participation.'With everything that the campers were able to learn and given the commitment they demonstrated during their learning, I am fulfilled, proud to have kept them usefully occupied during these holidays,' stressed the provincial director in charge of the Environment, Harouna Sandwidi, also promoter of the environmental holiday camp.The regional director in charge of the Environment of the Cascades, Achille Rabot, as well as the representative of the general director of WGO, Mamadou Kabré, have made the commitment to always support the organization of the camp in the province.They called on the campers to be ambassadors for the preservation of the envir onment where they will be.Source: Burkina Information Agency
