Loroum Hosts 48 Hours of Activities to Honor Teachers Amid Security Challenges

Loroum: The provincial directorate in charge of Primary Education of Loroum organized "48 Hours of the Teacher" from May 8 to 9, 2025, in Titao to pay tribute to educators who persistently continue their work despite severe security challenges impacting the education sector in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the security crisis has led to a significant decline in school enrollment, particularly concentrated in Titao. The provincial directorate initiated this event to honor the dedication of teachers who "keep the torch burning" under these conditions. The event featured a variety of activities, including conferences, cultural and sports events, board games, exhibitions of local products, and visits to cultural sites, engaging the local community over the two-day period.

Sidiki Mand©, the Provincial Director in charge of Education, emphasized the event's philosophy as a recreational break for teachers to alleviate stress. He noted that all teachers had returned to Titao since January 2025 and many have been working even on non-working days to compensate for delays in curriculum implementation. These activities aim to provide a necessary outlet for teachers and foster collaboration between the FDS and educators.

Captain Djibril Bassol©, the High Commissioner of Loroum Province, highlighted these 48 hours as a time for reflection on the educational challenges in Loroum. He affirmed that the educational innovations and vocational training promoted by the Burkinabe government are being realized in Loroum, which is beneficial. The theme, "The teacher, pillar of community resilience in Loroum," underscores the critical role of educators in the current security context.

The High Commissioner expressed the importance of supporting these activities, as education remains a priority that involves the highest authorities in the country. He encouraged teachers to maintain their courage for the anticipated reopening of schools in previously contested areas.

The event was sponsored by the Association for the Development of Loroum Province (ADPL). Moussa Zango, representing the ADPL, reiterated the association's commitment to supporting education in the province. The stark educational statistics-declining from 39,718 students and 982 teachers before the crisis to 9,226 students and 284 teachers-highlight the challenges faced by the primary education sector in Loroum.
