Minister of State Sombi© Launches Distribution of Agricultural Inputs for 2025-2026 Season

K©n©dougou: The Minister of State, Minister in charge of Agriculture, Commander Isma«l Sombi©, initiated the distribution campaign of agricultural inputs and plowing operations for the 2025-2026 wet season in Orodara on May 9, 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch ceremony, held in the Cit© du verger, focused on distributing fertilizers and seeds to enhance agricultural production and achieve food and nutritional sovereignty. In the Hauts-Bassins region alone, over 11,000 tons of inputs, including Urea and NPK, along with 3,000 tons of seeds such as rice, corn, and cowpea, will be distributed to rural stakeholders.

The regional director in charge of Agriculture, Eric Pascal Adanabou, noted a significant increase in the quantities of inputs compared to the previous campaign. Minister Isma«l Sombi© highlighted that this distribution aligns with directives from Captain Ibrahim Traor© and Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo, ensuring timely availability of inputs for producers to adhere to the cultivation schedule set by technical services.

Minister Sombi© emphasized the importance of expediting the distribution process to ensure producers receive inputs on time. He reiterated the government's commitment to making inputs accessible and urged producers to maximize their efforts in increasing agricultural output during the current season.

The head of the Department of Agriculture stressed that the State's large-scale subsidy operations are aimed at enhancing national wealth creation. He pointed out that the availability of over 70,000 tons of subsidized fertilizers reflects substantial efforts.

Minister Sombi© further explained that the State's subsidies should primarily benefit the national economy and population rather than other countries. This year, agreements will ensure that producers contribute a defined percentage of their harvests to build stocks nationwide, managed by SONAGESS, to stabilize market prices.

He emphasized maintaining stock levels to balance food prices throughout the year, ensuring that the entire Burkinabe population benefits from the subsidies. Producers expressed their gratitude and commitment to increasing agricultural production for the 2025-2026 rainy season, aspiring to achieve food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso.

Regional director Eric Pascal Adanabou expressed optimism for the 2025-2026 season, given the resources available to producers, fostering hope for enhanced agricultural activities in the Hauts-Bassins region.
