Minister Traoré Advocates for Africa’s Resurgence at MEDays 2024 in Morocco.
Tangier: As part of Burkina Faso's participation in MEDays 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, hosted a panel on the resurgence of Africa this Thursday, November 28, 2024, in Tangier, Morocco, alongside panelists from the political world and the United Nations system. Speaking on behalf of the countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) during this panel, Minister Traoré particularly insisted on the fact that the resurgence of Africa can only be achieved by placing the African at the heart of public policies. According to Burkina Information Agency, the African continent must promote endogenous development, based on its own capacities and values, in accordance with the vision carried by the heads of state of the AES. Minister Traoré called on Africans to shed negative stereotypes about their continent and to highlight the image of a hard-working, intelligent African capable of strategic thinking to guarantee a bright future for Afr ica. While highlighting the progress made in the security sector within the AES countries, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré stressed the crucial importance of security in the renewal of the African continent. He considered that this issue must be addressed from a global and mutual perspective, like the cooperation between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger within the framework of the AES. Overall, the panelists agreed that Africa's resurgence depends on the sovereignty and resilience of African countries. To do this, African states must invest more in education, higher education and research, while working towards the unity, peace and security of the continent. The 16th edition of the MEDays Forum (Southern Forum) opened on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in Tangier, Kingdom of Morocco, under the theme "Sovereignties and Resilience: Towards a New Global Balance". It is placed under the very high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. At the opening of the proceedings, the President of the Union of the Comoros, guest of honour, called for respect for the principle of state sovereignty and the spirit of dialogue in the management of global conflicts. He urged world leaders to think about future generations by adopting common and inclusive strategies, in order to build a more stable, balanced and resilient world. For the other speakers at the opening ceremony, the Tangier Forum must be a space for reflection and exchanges for the nations of the South, in order to contribute to the new global balance. "Africa must not follow where the world leads, but rather must light the way for tomorrow," said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Sao Tome and Principe. As a reminder, the MEDays 2024 bring together around 7,000 participants from 112 countries.
