Mouhoun: The Catholic community of the Diocese of D©dougou, particularly the women within the Association of Catholic Women (AFC), gathered to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The event took place on Friday, August 15, 2025, marked by an atmosphere of faith and gratitude.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the solemn mass was led by Father Ferdinand Gnoumou at the Sainte-Anne Cathedral in D©dougou. He was accompanied by several priests from the central deanery, including those from the Cathedral and Sainte Trinit© parishes. Sponsored by Johannie Par© and Hermann Coulibaly/Gnoumou, the event attracted a large gathering of believers who came to honor the Virgin Mary, revered for her humility, obedience, and devotion.
The godmother of the event expressed her gratitude, stating, "We give thanks to God and thank the women of the AFC for their consideration. Our prayer is that the Virgin Mary will welcome us into her school, that of the constant yes to God and the Holy Spirit."
Father Gnoumou's homily focused on the theme: "Mary, woman of hope, bearer of life in a troubled world." He emphasized that the Assumption represents hope for humanity, saying, "In Mary, God did not only glorify a woman, He glorified faithful faith, invincible hope, and fruitful mission." He encouraged the faithful to emulate Mary's missionary spirit and urged women to bring hope and life to their families and communities.
A significant moment of the celebration was the baptism of 26 children, who were welcomed into the faith. The women of the parish of Our Lady of Peace in Safan© received the Pilgrim Virgin, a symbol for organizing the next Assumption celebration on behalf of the diocese.
Despite rain in D©dougou, a traditional torchlight procession demonstrated the community's devotion. The women, committed to the cause of the Mother of the Savior, included prayers for peace and reconciliation in Burkina Faso.
The eve of the feast featured a recreational evening organized by the Catholic women of the diocese. This event included prayers, speeches, recitals, testimonies, theatrical performances, and cultural dances, showcasing Christian fraternity and renewed faith within the community.
Father Gnoumou remarked, "Gathered in the deanery, we wanted to magnify the fraternity that the son of Mary gave us to experience in our communities," and called for the intercession of the Virgin Mary for peace in Burkina Faso.
The celebration concluded with joy and gratitude, leaving believers inspired by the faith and hope embodied by the Virgin Mary. The evening saw the women engaging in festivities, celebrating the Assumption with enthusiasm in the deanery of the center.
