Mouhoun Region Stakeholders Convene to Shape Burkina Faso’s TVET Reforms

Mouhoun: The Governor of the Bankui region, Babo Pierre Bassinga, led the regional preparatory meeting for the National Forum on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Dedougou. This meeting aims to gather contributions from regional stakeholders to better guide national TVET policies.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the theme for the meeting was "Implementation of reforms for a technical and vocational education and training system serving the endogenous development of Burkina Faso." The creation of the Ministry of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training (MESFPT) reflects the government's ambition to increase the proportion of TVET learners to 60% by 2050, aiming for an economy enriched by skills, know-how, and innovation.

The message from the Minister in charge of Secondary Education, read by Governor Bassinga, emphasized that developing technical and professional skills is crucial for national economic sovereignty. The regional meeting is part of the TVET reform process initiated by the government to make it a driver of endogenous development.

Governor Bassinga urged participants to contribute actively to developing proposals that would adapt training to the labor market's real needs, enhance collaboration with the private sector, and improve infrastructure and equipment quality. The message noted several innovations by the government, including creating links between general education and TVET, promoting work-based learning, and organizing qualifying training for young people.

He stressed the collective responsibility of regional actors in implementing these reforms effectively, to establish an inclusive, efficient, and sustainable TVET system that supports Burkina Faso's economic transformation.

The two-day discussions will focus on themes such as TVET vision and governance, public-private partnerships, training sectors, access conditions, human resources, infrastructure, and sustainable financing. The conclusions from this meeting will contribute to organizing the National Forum, intending to strengthen TVET as a pillar of Burkina Faso's endogenous development.
