Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries has initiated a conference to familiarize quarry operators with the new Mining Code adopted in 2024. This meeting is designed to enhance their understanding of the rights, duties, and innovations brought about by the reform, aiming for more responsible and sustainable exploitation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the session, organized by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries (MEMC), is part of efforts to effectively implement the new Mining Code. It seeks to bolster the capacities of quarry operators by informing them about their rights, obligations, and the new opportunities and sanctions introduced by this reform.
Mr. Yam©ogo, representative of the Secretary General of the MEMC, emphasized the importance of the conference in making the information clear and accessible. A significant innovation of the new code is its focus on increasing national private sector participation in quarry substance exploitation, prioritizing nationals in mining permit grants.
The meeting saw participation from various entities, including the National Anti-Fraud Brigade, the Technical Inspection of Mines, and the Directorate of Legal Affairs and Litigation, allowing for open and constructive dialogue. The Director General of Careers, Mr. Touob¨kour¨ Stanislas AD M©da, expressed confidence in the productive outcomes and concrete proposals resulting from the discussions.
The conference featured thematic communications and interactive debates, enabling a collaborative environment where participants and ministry technicians could engage and share insights.
