Yako: The Provincial Committee for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (COPROSUR) of Passoré, with financial backing from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), conducted a crucial training session on November 28 and 29, 2024, focused on the Multisectoral Initial Rapid Assessment (ERIM) tool for its members and social workers in Passoré.According to Burkina Information Agency, the training aimed at bolstering the capabilities of those involved in mitigating the effects of security crises and disasters. Statutory members of COPROSUR and social workers participated in the two-day session to enhance their proficiency with the ERIM tool, enabling them to better respond to emergencies and humanitarian crises in the province.The High Commissioner of Passoré, Daouda Sangaré, presided over the proceedings, highlighting the precarious security and food situations faced by the 256,060 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North region. He emphasized the necessity of implementing tools for rapid data co llection from affected populations during disasters and crises.Three informative communications were presented by Dramane Bognini, the database administrator. The first session introduced ERIM, a critical tool for managing humanitarian crises, which facilitates the collection of data accessible to humanitarian actors within 72 hours. Bognini detailed how the tool captures essential data regarding the identity, shock, focal point, composition, and location of affected households.The second communication delved into the workings of CONASUR and outlined various disaster types, including floods, droughts, invasions, epidemics, social conflicts, and landslides. In the final session, the practical use of the ERIM tool was explored, highlighting its deployment as an electronic data collection form on smartphones and tablets.Halidou Konfé, the provincial director of post-primary and secondary education of Passoré, representing the high commissioner, expressed gratitude to the UNDP for its invaluable support in facilitating the workshop. He encouraged participants to continue practicing with the ERIM tool to ensure readiness for future emergencies.
