Doumbala: Peanuts are the most widely produced crop in the commune of Doumbala. A guided tour of the fields revealed the widespread production of peanuts.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Konkuy-Koro producer Daouda Traore mentioned that peanuts thrive in the region due to the suitability of the soil. Another local producer, Yacouba Kone, shared that his family cultivated more than twenty hectares of peanuts this year, despite seasonal uncertainties.
Louis Traore highlighted that peanut cultivation has been a long-standing tradition in the area, dating back to the times of their grandparents, mainly serving as a cash crop. Judicael Dakuyo, a sixty-year-old resident of Doumbala, noted that peanut production is as common as the cultivation of millet or corn, with every family involved in the practice.
The sale of peanuts plays a crucial role in supporting local families, enabling them to finance essential expenses such as school fees and medical bills. Despite its significance, producers face challenges such as limited resources that hinder yield increases and a lack of market outlets for their products.
In response to these challenges, producers have called for the establishment of a peanut processing unit in the region and are urging individuals to promote peanut-related products.
