Ouagadougou: The people of the rural commune of Malba, situated in Poni province, have responded to a call from the country's authorities by contributing to the peace effort. Residents of this commune, located 12 kilometers from the Ghana border, have managed to raise a total of 2,557,700 CFA francs.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the President of the Special Delegation of the commune of Malba, Issouf Hie, handed over the receipt for the collected funds to the High Commissioner of the province of Poni, Lucien Guenguere, last Saturday. Guenguere expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to "support the highest authorities in the reconquest of the territory and national sovereignty."
He emphasized the ongoing nature of the fight against terrorism, acknowledging significant progress but urging continued support until a final resolution is achieved. The funds raised by the people of Malba are to be deposited into the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP), benefiting the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
To gather this sum, municipal authorities engaged all 35 villages within the commune, with representatives visiting each village to facilitate contributions. Social networks were also leveraged to encourage Malba nationals residing abroad to contribute.
Essogna Essai Kambire, chairman of the organizing committee for the fundraising, highlighted the municipality's commitment to restoring national integrity. "The municipality of Malba does not want to remain on the sidelines of this struggle that has been imposed on us," he stated.
Sie Oscar Kambou, a youth representative, echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of unity in overcoming national challenges. Since 2015, Burkina Faso has faced terrorism, prompting the government to establish the Patriotic Support Fund to enable public contributions towards territorial recovery. By April 2025, the fund had amassed over 307 billion CFA francs.
