Koudougou: The Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment, Mr. Roland SOMDA, met with the Governors of the regions on Saturday, May 24 in Koudougou, during the U15 national finals of the Union of School and University Sports of Burkina Faso (USSU-BF) for the 2024-2025 season.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister, recognizing the strategic role of youth in nation-building, shared the Government's vision of leveraging school and university sports as a tool for education, social cohesion, and talent detection. He commended the Governors for their commitment to the successful organization of the USSU-BF and called for enhanced synergy at the regional level. He highlighted the necessity of establishing multi-sectoral consultation frameworks to foster participatory, inclusive, and locally grounded sports governance.
With the increasing number of athletes engaging in the USSU-BF, the Minister urged the Governors to pursue robust partnerships to consolidate achievements and support the State in organizing the competition. He stressed the importance of cooperation between local authorities, decentralized State services, technical and financial partners, and stakeholders in the education system.
The Governors, in response, expressed unanimous support for the ambitious vision and committed to promoting sports as a catalyst for regional and national development.
During the meeting, Mr. L©dia Geoffroy OUEDRAOGO, Director of School and University Sports, briefed the Governors on the history of the USSU-BF, recent innovations, achievements, encountered challenges, and future prospects for upcoming editions.
The event was attended by members of the Minister's office and regional directors of sports and leisure.
