Kaya: The Minister of Basic Education and Promotion of National Languages, Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, launched the second Multi-Year Resilience Program (PPR) in Kaya for the period 2024-2027. This initiative is a significant part of Burkina Faso's response to education in emergency situations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch signifies a critical step in bolstering Burkina Faso's education system, especially during crises, to ensure every child has access to quality education. The Minister highlighted the challenges posed by obscurantist forces on the country's education sector.
UNICEF Resident Representative in Burkina Faso, Chantal Umutoni, noted the PPR's total cost is approximately 8 billion CFA francs, underlining its importance for the resilience of the education sector amid ongoing challenges.
According to the Technical Secretary for Education in Emergency Situations (STESU), Paulin Pon¨ Zombr©, the program, which will run until October 2027, aims to benefit 383,520 individuals across the regions most affected by the security crisis: the North, Centre-North, and Sahel. The beneficiaries include children, adolescents, young people, teachers, and educational community members.
The program will focus on three main areas: access to education, quality of teaching, and coordination of actions. Implementing partners for the initiative include EDUCO and the Diocesan Centre for Communication (CDC) in the Northern region, the Tin Tua and Enfants du Monde (EdM) association in the Sahel, and the Community Development Foundation (FDC) and Yamwreke de Boulsa in the Central-North region. Coordination will be overseen by Plan Burkina Faso.
The launch ceremony was attended by local and central authorities, technical and financial partners, students, parents, and education staff.
