Sourou: The Patriotic Movement for the Development of Sourou (MPDS) expressed approval for the new administrative redistribution of the territory on Monday. The reorganization includes the establishment of Sourou as a new region, comprising the provinces of Nayala, Kossin, and Sourou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Isssouf Djibo, president of the MPDS, stated that the reclassification will have a positive effect on the security situation within Sourou. Djibo emphasized that the territorial division would contribute to the region's overall development.
"We welcomed the creation of Sourou Province as a region with great joy. This division will allow us to effectively and quickly address all issues related to the security and development of the area," Djibo remarked. He further noted that the three provinces possess essential resources, particularly in agriculture and livestock, to drive their development.
Djibo also highlighted the need for improved security through this new division, allowing the population to utilize the Sourou Valley efficiently. The Council of Ministers adopted a decree on July 2, 2025, which increased the number of provinces from 45 to 47 and regions from 13 to 17.
