Sourou’s Green Initiative: Over 1,870 Seedlings Planted in Tougan

Sourou: The city's population responded on Saturday, June 21, 2025, to the call of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, to plant trees to green Faso by planting more than 1,870 seedlings. The Burkinabe government officially launched on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in the commune of Guiba, province of Zoundw©ogo (Centre-South), the 7th edition of the National Tree Day (JNA), called operation "Patriotic Hour to Green Faso".

According to Burkina Information Agency, this presidential initiative consists of planting 5 million seedlings per hour to combat desertification in Burkina Faso. In Tougan in Sourou, the operation was launched within the grounds of the private college Notre Dame de l'Annonciation by the High Commissioner of the province, D©sir© Badolo.

The provincial director of Water and Forests of Sourou, Meth©o Malo, reported that more than 1,870 plants, including neems, flamboyant trees, and fruit trees, were planted during the day. The High Commissioner of Sourou Province, D©sir© Badolo, indicated that this day is symbolic. He urged everyone to continue planting trees during the rainy season wherever possible so that the goal of five million seedlings is reached.
