Structural Transformation: Captain Ibrahim Traor© Gives Burkina Faso a New Soul

Ouagadougou: Security, agricultural offensive, sovereignty, industrialization, bold reforms, cultural renaissance and pan-African vision: the overhaul of Burkina Faso is taking shape under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traor©.

According to Burkina Information Agency, in just two years at the helm of Burkina Faso, President Ibrahim Traor© has initiated a structural transformation of his country. Driven by a pan-Africanist vision inherited from Thomas Sankara, this 37-year-old leader embodies a radical renewal.

Beyond the fight to regain the integrity of the national territory, its priorities include, among others, national sovereignty, food security, and the socio-economic and cultural influence of Burkina Faso.

On the security front, the reorganization of the Armed Forces, the creation of new units, the massive recruitment of combat forces, and the acquisition of a significant quantity of military equipment have made it possible to neutralize thousands of terrorists and reclaim territories.

In a move asserting sovereignty, the regime has denounced military and economic agreements. Better still, Burkina Faso has expelled French troops from its soil.

The country's leaders have adopted the traditional attire made in Burkina Faso. For example, the Faso Dan Fani has replaced the unique gowns worn by university and institute teachers, as well as the gowns of magistrates and court clerks, which were previously imported at exorbitant costs.

Economic independence is also illustrated by increased control over mineral resources, with the revision of the mining code.

The economy is experiencing a revival with the inauguration of tomato and textile processing plants and the implementation of the "Labor-Intensive Road Works" program.

This performance is reflected in a GDP growth of 17.5% between 2022 and 2024.

Agriculture, supported by the distribution of 400 tractors and nearly 69,000 tonnes of fertilizer to producers, is progressing towards food self-sufficiency.

On the institutional level, bold initiatives have emerged: a 30% reduction in ministerial salaries, the creation of customary courts, the "One Province, One Grove" operation for reforestation, and the establishment of the Commission for the Regulation of Dysfunctions (CRD) to combat corruption.

Burkinabe diplomacy is taking a strategic turn with the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States, a mutual defense pact signed with Mali and Niger in September 2023. By breaking with ECOWAS, Burkina Faso asserts its right to freely choose its partners.

Finally, on the cultural front, the successful organization of the recent editions of the National Culture Week (SNC) in 2024 and the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) in 2025 demonstrate that Burkina Faso remains a respectable country. These two events have become showcases of Burkinabe soft power.

"Our traditions are our shield against cultural imperialism," President Traor© often declares, his speeches in Moor© and Dioula winning popular support. "We will no longer be the ghosts of our own history," he likes to remind us.

Between economic realism, assertive sovereignty, and patriotic fervor, Captain Ibrahim Traor© embodies a Burkina Faso that dares to reinvent itself without hesitation.
