Banfora: The Tannounyan region, formerly known as the Cascades, marked the 7th edition of National Tree Day (JNA) with a significant reforestation effort in Banfora. Themed "Medicinal plants: source of health and climate resilience," the event saw the planting of nearly twenty species of trees in the medicinal grove of Como© province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Tannounyan region's celebration was centered in the medicinal grove of Como© province, where 2,500 seedlings were planted across an approximate 5-hectare site. Lieutenant-Colonel of Waters and Forests, Issouf Traor©, announced that 20,000 seedlings would be planted nationally and 100,000 regionally, focusing on medicinal species. He emphasized the implementation of measures to maintain and protect the newly planted seedlings.
Governor Badabou¨ Florent Bazi© highlighted the day's objective as contributing to the restoration of plant cover by involving all regional stakeholders in the planting, maintenance, and protection activities. He stressed the importance of trees as symbols of life, urging the Tannounyan population to ensure the seedlings' success for the benefit of future generations.
The governor appreciated the commitment of local authorities and encouraged continued efforts to green the region and Burkina Faso. Former Minister of Sports, Issouf Sirima, commended the success of National Tree Day in the Cascades and expressed his support for the initiative, praising the mobilization of the region's vital forces.
