The Director General (DG) of the Burkina Information Agency (AIB) newly installed Friday in Ouagadougou, declared that the wholesaler of public information "will be what we want it to be.""The AIB will be what we want it to be: the reference in terms of primary source information, in terms of true, reliable and credible information, useful and effective," declared the new general director of the AIB, Séraphine Somé, following her installation by the Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of communication, Fidèle Tamini. The new general director explains that this vision of making the AIB the true wholesaler of information will engage more at all political and operational levels. "This political will displayed to see the new AIB fully assume its role and its attributions, all things that will facilitate the provision of substantial means for the accomplishment of its mission of collecting, processing and making available information for the benefit of institutions and the media, and therefore to be in phase with the rights of Burkinabe citizens to information."For her, the operational aspect "is up to us, agency workers, journalists and correspondents, to know how to wear the straitjacket that has been made for us.""The network of AIB correspondents that we helped to set up while we were in the commercial management of Sidwaya, will serve as the basis for our new mission and we will certainly be required to strengthen it by recruiting new skills," added DG Somé.The head of the Agency paid a vibrant "tribute to all the correspondents, to all the managers who have succeeded one another at the head of Editions Sidwaya, to all the managers of the AIB who have individually and collectively brought land to the land as Master Pacéré Titenga would say, in our turn we will bring our share of land to make the new AIB an instrument for reconquering the national territory, an instrument for development and expression of national sovereignty."The DG reassured the SG of the ministry in charge of communication of her commitment to work, to deserve this trust and that of all the actors with whom she will now work. "I also know that I can count on the support and assistance of my entire hierarchy to succeed in this very exciting and demanding mission.Back to familyThe new AIB Director General says she is reconnecting with the media world. "By taking up this position, I am reconnecting with great emotion with the media family after nearly a decade of shared breaks between communication and the ministerial press to which I devoted four good years, then the promotion of culture and tourism at the Regional Directorate of Culture, Arts and Tourism of the South-West, where I spent four years and eight months.""This is therefore another challenge that presents itself to me in terms of collecting, processing and disseminating the right information in a national context marked by the dual security and humanitarian crisis," she added. For her, "in a globalized world where information is generated by various sources and suc h diverse actors, the provision of credible and professional information is a challenge that I will strive to meet. Having worked at Editions Sidwaya, the parent company or even the common house, from 2005 to 2014, nine years including two years spent in the Sales and Marketing Department, I am no stranger as such to AIB, as a branch of this press group, therefore Editions Sidwaya."Created on May 27, 1964, the AIB was established as a public administrative institution of the State by the Council of Ministers of August 21, 2024. It was the Council of Ministers of September 19, 2024 that brought Séraphine Somé to the head of the Agency as general director, a first in the history of this information wholesaler.Source: Burkina Information Agency
