Throne Day in Ouagadougou: Morocco Reiterates Its Full Solidarity with Burkina Faso in Its Fight Against Terrorism and Violent Extremism

Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the commemoration of the 26th Anniversary of the Throne Day, the Ambassador of the Kingdom Youssef Slaoui emphasized Morocco's unwavering support for Burkina Faso in its efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism. Speaking on Wednesday evening in Ouagadougou, Ambassador Slaoui highlighted the enduring partnership between the two nations and Morocco's commitment to backing Burkina Faso's initiatives for stability and development.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Moroccan diplomat's remarks were made during the commemoration event which marks the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the throne. The ceremony was attended by high-profile figures including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traor©, along with ambassadors, diplomats, and dignitaries from various sectors.

Ambassador Slaoui underscored the deep friendship between Morocco and Burkina Faso, strengthened by the mutual respect between King Mohammed VI and President Ibrahim Traor©. He expressed hope that the Moroccan-Burkinabe partnership would serve as a model for South-South cooperation within Africa.

The bilateral relations between the two countries have been reinforced through significant agreements and meetings. This includes the signing of the Military Cooperation Agreement in July 2024 and the Morocco-Burkina Faso Inter-State Committee meeting held in Rabat from July 23 to 25, 2025. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for Burkinabe students through Moroccan scholarships.

Additionally, the Royal Audience in April, attended by Minister Traor© and his counterparts from Mali and Niger, was highlighted as a key moment. During this meeting, support was expressed for His Majesty the King's initiative to improve Sahel countries' access to the Atlantic, with commitments to expedite its implementation.

Ambassador Slaoui pointed out that the upcoming months will see the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Burkina Faso. This will coincide with the 5th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission in Ouagadougou, focusing on various sectors such as decentralization, transport, vocational training, and more.

The diplomat also reflected on the 4th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission held on June 9, 2023, in Dakhla, Morocco. This session aimed to advance the collaborative goals of both nations. Furthermore, the abolition of visas for ordinary passport holders has been a significant diplomatic development, facilitating easier movement between the countries.
