The Trans-Saharan gas pipeline will supply gas to the international market, particularly to Europe, from three African countries, namely Algeria, Niger and Nigeria, the Niger Oil Ministry announced."It [trans-Saharan gas pipeline] will cross the territory of Niger for more than 1,000 kilometers as part of the cooperation between Niger, Nigeria and Algeria. Thus, thanks to previous discussions, the ministers of the three countries have committed to implementing this gas pipeline which will supply the international market with gas from these three countries," said the director general of hydrocarbons at the ministry.According to him, by 2027, the trans-Saharan gas pipeline should connect Nigeria to Algeria via the territory of Niger. Niger has gas reserves of more than 23 billion cubic meters, he said. The agreement on the construction of the more than 4,000-kilometer-long Trans-Saharan gas pipeline, linking Nigeria, Niger and Algeria, was signed by the authorities of the three countries in 2009. However, the implementation of the project has been postponed several times. At the time of the agreement, the total investment in the project was estimated at $10 billion. The planned capacity of the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline is 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year.Source: Burkina Information Agency
