UB Reaffirms Certification of ICT University Graduates Amid Social Media Concerns

Buea: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, Professor Ngomo Horace Manga, has reaffirmed that the institution is actively certifying the degrees of graduates from the ICT University in Yaounde. This announcement was made in a release issued by Professor Ngomo on February 4, which was reviewed by CNA. According to Cameroon News Agency, Professor Ngomo emphasized that the certification process for ICT University graduates is proceeding as planned. He elaborated that the University of Buea, as a mentor university, has a Framework and Specific agreement with ICT University. This agreement involves oversight, quality assurance, and institutional guidance to ensure that ICT University adheres to high standards in teaching, research, and student training, aligning with both national and international higher education benchmarks. Professor Ngomo further noted that this mentorship is a testament to the University of Buea's dedication to excellence in higher education and its pivotal role in enhancing academ ic institutions within Cameroon. He assured that both ICT University and the University of Buea are collaborating to ensure a transparent and efficient implementation of the agreement terms, which includes the joint certification of students. The Vice Chancellor called on students to remain calm and patient as the certification process for recently submitted complete files concludes. He advised students to reach out to the administration of ICT University for any needed clarification. The partnership agreement between the two institutions, aimed at enhancing learning and research, was signed on March 14, 2023, in Buea. Professor Ngomo represented the University of Buea, while Professor Victor Mbarika, Founder and President of the Board of Trustees of ICT University, signed for his institution. ICT University regards this as a significant national academic partnership and recognition. This development comes amid social media speculation questioning the recognition of ICT University as a legitimate instituti on, following student complaints about difficulties in certifying their degrees for international programs. The University of Buea's confirmation of the ongoing certification process has addressed these concerns. An insider at the ICT University revealed to CNA that graduates prior to the agreement would also be addressed by UB. The source cited Article 4 sub 4 of the agreement, which stipulates that UB is committed to recognizing all certificates and diplomas issued by ICT University.
