Wahgnion Gold Operations Reviews 2024 Activities at Accountability Day in L©raba

Loraba: The High Commissioner of the province of Loraba, Yacouba Sawadogo, presided over the accountability day for the activities of Wahgnion Gold Operations (WGO) on July 15, 2025, in Niankorodougou. The event focused on the mining company's 2024 production results, financial contributions, achievements, and future challenges.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this was the first accountability day held by WGO since commencing production in 2019. The primary aim was to demonstrate the economic, social, and environmental impact of WGO's operations to local stakeholders. The event sought to strengthen relationships with local authorities and communities by sharing production results and financial turnover for 2024.

Participants engaged in discussions about the social investment plan, which includes initiatives like training programs to enhance employability among young people and women. The plan also supports income-generating activities such as the development of a 26-hectare irrigated area for 176 individuals and a catering project for women at one of the mining sites. Additionally, WGO has invested in infrastructure like roads, bridges, and boreholes.

According to the Managing Director of WGO, Dr. Sagnonma Eric Da, a significant portion of the workforce, 40 to 45%, is sourced from local communities. He outlined challenges for 2025, including employment expectations, equipment aging, gold price fluctuations, infrastructure maintenance, and resettlement of affected populations.

For 2025, WGO plans to produce 140,000 ounces of gold and aims to enhance the tailings park, execute an interconnection project with SONABEL, and implement a winter season management plan. The social investment plan remains a priority.

Community leaders, including the chief of Niankorodougou, Yaya Ouattara, and communal coordinator of women, Bibata Ouattara, expressed appreciation for the meeting. Ms. Ouattara also requested further support, such as fencing a women's house and developing a gardening area.

Dr. Da emphasized the importance of accountability to the community. WGO is now state-owned as part of the Burkina Faso Mining Participation Company (SOPAMIB). High Commissioner Sawadogo encouraged the population to support the mine for continued peaceful operations.
