Widows’ Association Launches Community Clean-Up Initiative at Sourou High Commission

Sourou: An association of widows and vulnerable people, known as the Maya association, undertook a clean-up exercise at the high commission of the Sourou province on Thursday, July 10, 2025, marking the official launch of their activities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the association, led by its president Oumou Boro, aims to create a space in society for widowed women and vulnerable people in the Sourou province. The initial activity involved the cleaning of the provincial high commission's premises in Tougan, Sourou, as a symbol of their commitment to societal participation and support.

Oumou Boro stated, "Our association is made up exclusively of widowed women and vulnerable people. Our goal is to create a place for them in society. As you know, widowed women are very marginalized. Through this framework, we want to create jobs around us and help women, orphans, and vulnerable people gain moral and psychological support."

The association has plans to extend its clean-up efforts to other services. Boro indicated that after the High Commission, the group intends to clean up social services, including the CMA and Justice, as part of their ongoing program to visit various services.

The association's president also called upon the community to support the widows and vulnerable individuals. High Commissioner D©sir© Badolo praised the women for their initiative, describing it as a commendable act. He expressed hope for a swift return of peace to both the province and Burkina Faso as a whole.
