Ouagadougou: WOODAN FC won, Sunday in the Samandin district of Ouagadougou, the 2nd edition of the Maracana 'Social Cohesion' tournament, initiated by the Faso Beogo Yinga association to promote unity, dialogue and solidarity among Burkinab¨.
According to Burkina Information Agency, after a 2-2 draw in regulation time, WOODAN FC defeated National FC 5-4 on penalties. The winner takes home 50,000 FCFA, a set of jerseys, a ball, and the trophy. Their unlucky opponent pockets 30,000 FCFA, a set of jerseys, and a ball. The third- and fourth-place finishers received 10,000 FCFA and 10,000 FCFA respectively.
The Vice-President of the Faso Beogo Yinga association, Souleymane Tindimba, hailed the successful outcome, stressing that this tournament, beyond its sporting nature, constitutes "a strong message of unity between the daughters and sons of the country, in all our diversity." He also reaffirmed his support for the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), "who stand guard day and night, at the cost of their lives, for freedom and peace."
Mr. Tindimba also invited cultural and sporting actors to become more involved in raising public awareness around the vision of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, a vision "based on sovereignty, dignity and social justice."
In his opinion, young people, now well-informed thanks to social media, must use these tools to popularize the ideals of the popular and progressive revolution. "A nation does not belong to one person, but to everyone. We must work to preserve this common good in order to ensure that the general interest prevails over individual interest," he declared.
The sponsor of the edition, El Hadj Mahamadi Zoungrana, echoed the same sentiment, calling for unity and social cohesion, the key to a united and prosperous Burkina Faso.
The president of the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC), Mahamoudou Ou©draogo, for his part, urged other organizations to initiate such activities that contribute to social cohesion and the promotion of the ideals of the revolution.
The final was also marked by a blood donation campaign for the fighting forces, as well as other recreational activities, including a p©tanque final.
