As part of the implementation of the Strategic Equipment Plan for the National Armed Forces, significant military equipment has been acquired for the benefit of the combat forces since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power. The arrival of Captain Ibrahim Traoré in power has given more dynamism to the National Armed Forces and adequate operational capabilities to face the terrorist hydra. A glance in the rearview mirror over the last two years allows us to be convinced of this.Indeed, in addition to the reorganization of the army and all paramilitary forces that was carried out to take into account the networking of the entire national territory, the President of Faso has embarked on a process of gradual acquisition of high-level military equipment for the benefit of the Burkinabe army. This was possible thanks to the diversification of Burkina Faso's strategic partnerships with other countries such as Russia, Turkey, China, etc.'The equipment challenge is being resolved. It has already been done for sev eral areas and it is continuing for other areas,' informed the President of Faso, during a meeting with students in mid-January 2023, in Ouagadougou. One of the most important acquisitions that has revolutionized the effectiveness of the fighting forces in the fields of hostilities is that of air defense means. These means, it must be said, have allowed the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) to garner numerous victories by giving the terrorist hordes a hard time in the theaters of operations. It will be recalled that on April 8, 2024, the Head of State handed over to the Minister of National Defense and Veterans, General Kassoum Coulibaly, a large batch of aerial vectors including a dozen drones consisting mainly of Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar Akinci. The acquisition of these drones is the result of cooperation between Burkina Faso and Turkey, thus allowing the expansion of the fleet which can now intervene in a timely manner and permanent surveillanc e of the national territory.More than 600 billion FCFA investedNowadays, thanks to the vision of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, many drones are constantly scanning the sky for any enemy. Well before that, on January 12, 2024, a large batch of military equipment was handed over to the Ministry of Defense. It consists of rolling stock, combat weapons and ammunition.Still in the dynamic of strengthening the capacities of the national armed forces, on Thursday, June 6, 2024, another important batch of military and engineering equipment was handed over to the FDS, engaged on the front lines of the war against terrorism. These are combat armored vehicles resistant to improvised explosive devices, weapons, ammunition and military engineering work equipment, including excavators, truck carriers and tanks. On April 18, 2024, a batch of military equipment was handed over to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (CEMGA) for use by the Minister in charge of defense, General Kassoum Coulibaly. These acquisiti ons consisted of, among others, 75 vehicles, 7 APC ambulances, 20 M53 vehicles, 20 Sadco vehicles, 20 tanker vehicles, 4 Armored car type vehicles, 2 Armored Bus type vehicles, APC memsah type vehicles. In total, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, nearly one billion dollars, or more than 600 billion CFA francs, were spent in 2023 on the acquisition of military equipment, as part of the fight against terrorism and the restoration of territorial integrity. All of these acquisitions, welcomed by all components of the nation, are not only the result of the commitment of the highest authorities and the fruit of the various contributions of the Burkinabe people who, despite the multiple attempts at destabilization, have always united behind Captain Ibrahim Traoré and his government. It is therefore to everyone's credit that victories have been achieved on the front lines of the fight against insecurity, allowing many displaced people to return to their places of origin and the reopening of many sc hools, which were previously closed.Source: Burkina Information Agency
