Zoundw©ogo’s AZLY Highlights Children’s Rights with Awareness Initiatives

Zoundw©ogo: The Zak La Yilguemd© Association (AZLY) celebrated the 2025 edition of the Day of the African Child (DAC) in Guiba, Zoundw©ogo province, through a series of awareness-raising activities focused on the rights of young children. Events included a football holiday camp, a radio broadcast, and an official ceremony marked by speeches, sketches, theatre, artistic performances, and the presentation of gifts to participants. This celebration commemorates the 35th Day of the African Child, held annually on June 16 in memory of the 1976 Soweto children's massacre in South Africa.

According to Burkina Information Agency, AZLY organized these activities for young children as part of its "At school with peace of mind" program, supported by the Dutch Kinderpostzegels foundation. During the official ceremony, Aim©e Yam©ogo, executive secretary of AZLY, stated that the celebration serves as an opportunity to assess children's protection and education in Zoundw©ogo in collaboration with educational stakeholders.

Children, represented by Judith Bebamba, highlighted the increasing vulnerability due to security challenges in the country, impacting their basic rights. The national theme for JEA 2025, "Investing in Burkinabe children means building a nation proud of its values," calls for action in support of children's rights.

Dramane Billa, ceremony patron and inspector of primary and non-formal education, expressed hope for prioritizing children's well-being in national interventions. He commended AZLY for its positive impact in Guiba and Gogo municipalities, addressing issues like school dropouts, gold mining, and socio-cultural constraints through awareness and support activities.

Inspector Billa noted the success of AZLY's partner schools in recent CEP exams, achieving a success rate of 95% to 100%. Tonsour© Alassane Gouba, president of Guiba's special delegation, recognized AZLY's significant role in promoting children's rights and encouraged continued collaboration with Kinderpostzegels. He urged other organizations to join AZLY in enhancing children's well-being and development in Burkina Faso.
