International Literacy Day: National literacy and adult education strategy reviewed (Social Affairs Minister)

Social Affairs Minister Malek Ezzahi, Friday, said on the International Literacy Day which falls on September 8 each year, that his department had reviewed and updated the Startegy of National Literacy and Adult Education, before submitting it to the Prime Ministry for adoption.
During a ceremony held in Tunis, Ezzahi added that his department took all necessary measures to promote different methods for acquiring literacy and adult education in Tunisia, including the new «Lifelong Adult Literacy and Education» strategy destined to school dropouts.
“These measures also focus on strengthening partnership with various stakeholders from the public and private sectors, the civil society as well as the German Confederation for Adult Education,” he pointed out.
Ezzahi added that his department sorted out the professional situation of nearly 1,018 teachers in the social field, underlining that the illiteracy rate decreased in Tunisia.

Education Ministry, Classera to launch digital plateform in Tunisia (Boughdiri)

An agreement will be signed Friday by the Education Ministry and Classera enterprise, E-Learning providers, to launch a digital education platform in Tunisia
This platform will be operational in 500 primary, middle and secondary schools before being rolled out across the country, Minister Mohamed Ali Boughdiri said, for nearly 2.5 million pupils and 500 education staff.
The platform will be used in classrooms and in distance learning, in such unexpected situations as COVID-19.
The ministry is endeavouring to make tablets available for pupils and education staff and secure internet connection for schools in remote areas.

Tunisia and Mali discuss ways to boost cooperation in higher education and scientific research

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Moncef Boukthir, Thursday, had a meeting with Minister of Malians Abroad and African Integration Moussa Ag Attaher, who is making a working visit to Tunisia on September 7 and 8.
The meeting, which was attended by Malian ambassador to Tunisia, focused on ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the fields of higher education and scientific research.
Boukthir commended the assuduity shown by Malian students attending Tunisian schools while the Malian minister welcomed the support offered by Tunisia to his country in the field of training, reads a statement of the ministry on Friday.

President of the Republic tours capital and listens to citizens’ concerns

President Kais Saied toured different areas of Tunis on Friday evening, where he met with a number of citizens, exchanged views with them and listened to their concerns, particularly with regard to the high prices of some products and the availability of a number of basic commodities in the markets, and the need to combat all manifestations of monopoly and illegal speculation.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, Kais Saied also took note of the failure of environmental protection and land development in one of the capital’s main streets. He stressed the need for municipalities and all relevant bodies throughout the Republic to play their role in preserving the environment.

National consultation on education reform to kick off next Sept.15 (minister) [Upd 1]

The national consultation on education reform will be launched on September 15. It will be made available on an electronic platform, said Education Minister Mohamed Ali Boughdiri.
The national consultation announced by President Kais Saied will run over two months to offer citizens the opportunity to put forward their reform proposals, the minister told TAP in an exclusive interview.
The national consultation includes 20 questions on a number of key themes, namely the future guidelines of the education system, teaching methods, school hours, assessment and other issues.
The findings will be credible and transparent, Boughdiri said. The Education Ministry will release a saynthesis report outlining findings as soon as the consultation comes to an end.
These findings will be adopted by the Higher Education Council which will be set up under July 25, 2022, constitution in a bid to implement the national strategy for education reform in Tunisia.

Foreign Minister meets his Malian counterpart

The reality and prospects of the existing historical cooperation relations between Tunisia and the Republic of Mali and ways to ensure their further development, particularly in the fields of economic and trade cooperation, higher education, health and vocational training, were discussed during the meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, and Minister of Malians Abroad and African Integration, Moussa AG Al-Taher, on Friday in Tunis.
The two ministers also exchanged views on developments in the Sahel-Sahara region and ways of dealing with the phenomenon of irregular migration, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Nabil Ammar expressed his sincere gratitude to the Malian authorities for their willingness to cooperate and coordinate with the Tunisian side in order to find solutions for the return of irregular migrants under the best conditions, while ensuring adequate accommodation for Malians legally residing in Tunisia.
The programme of the Malian minister’s working visit to Tunisia on September 7 and 8 included two meetings with the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as a visit to a vocational training centre, according to the statement.

Vacancies in ISIE Board to be filled by end of next week, says Bouasker

Three Independent High Authority for Elections (French: ISIE) Board vacancies will be filled by the end of next week before the publication of the presidential decree calling voters and the decree on the division of electoral constituencies, said President Farouk Bouasker.
The announcement was made at the opening Friday of a training session for TAP journalists on the theme: “the Constitutional and Legal Framework of Elections of local and regional councils, the National Council of Districts and Regions and the Stages of the Electoral Process.”
The date of elections of local councils was set for next December 17, Bouasker said. The filling of vacancies in ISIE Board and the publication of the presidential decree calling for voters are due before September 17.
The election body finalised logistics organisation for the upcoming elections and the number of polling stations and centres as well as accredited staff will be kept unchanged.
There will be a local coordinator and a deputy coodinator for these elections who will represent the ISIE in each constituency, he added.
Local elections to have 279 local councils in place will take place in 2,155 constituencies. This is the first step towards the creation of regional councils and, subsequently, the National Council of Districts and Regions.
To this end, the ISIE implemented the territorial division project which helped determine the administrative boundaries of 2,085 Imadas in 279 delegations.
TAP CEO Najeh Missaoui laid emphasis on the importance of local journalism which, he said, is at the core of coverage of local elections.
TAP journalists boast a wealth of experience in covering elections. The specific nature of local elections requires training in the relevant legal framework.
