AES Confederation: Heads of Parliaments Gather in Ouagadougou for Key Meeting

Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe media this Friday reported on the meeting of the presidents of the AES parliament dedicated to the adoption of the texts of the AES confederal sessions and the second anniversary of the union. "AES Confederation: Heads of Parliaments in conclave in Ouagadougou," headlines the public daily Sidwaya.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the speakers of the parliaments of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali held a working session devoted to examining preliminary draft texts relating to the confederal sessions of the parliaments of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). The opening of the session took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in Ouagadougou.

The country mentions: "Creation of the AES parliament: the presidents of the parliaments of the three countries in Ouagadougou." The daily newspaper reports that early in the morning, President Ousmane Bougouma welcomed his Malian and Nigerien counterparts, one after the other, at the entrance to the national representation. The two distinguished guests were treated to military honors before the actual start of the work. The adopted documents will be forwarded to the heads of state of the AES.

From another angle, the newspapers comment on the two years of sovereign progress of the AES. L'Express du Faso headlined: "AES: Two years later, notable progress, efforts still to be made." The private daily states that two years later, whatever anyone says, the phenomenon of terrorism has been brought under control in many localities where populations have been resettled and are peacefully carrying out their activities.

Certainly, other localities still need to be recaptured, but the level of insecurity is no longer the same as two years ago, the daily newspaper rejoices. "AES: Two years of sovereign march," reads the headline of the state-run newspaper Sidwaya. The newspaper talks about two years of institutional changes in the organization, the fight against terrorism, the fight against imperialism in all its forms, the quest for true sovereignty, and the hard work for the integration of the three peoples and endogenous development.
