ALERT organisation receives 1,090 complaints against banks

The Organisation for Combating Rent-Seeking Economy in Tunisia (ALERT) has received 1,090 complaints concerning violations of the law and infringements upon individuals' rights committed by profit-seeking banks at the expense of their clients' interests. Taking the floor at a press conference held, on Tuesday, as part of the organisation's campaign against the Banking Cartel in Tunisia, its president Louay Chebbi underlined that ALERT will either launch negotiations with these banks or resort to legal action to protect the interests and rights of citizens. Chebbi stated that the aforementioned complaints pertain to the closure of accounts without adhering to legal conditions, the increase in banking fees, and the failure to calculate the true value of client transactions. "First, we will negotiate with the banks on behalf of the complainants. In case, we fail to reach a compromise, we will pursue legal action against them," he pointed out. Despite the economic challenges and price crisis the country is facing, banks are making huge profits without any strict control, he pointed out, adding that the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) is not implementing appropriate policies against banks. ALERT is an organisation dedicated to combating the rent-seeking economy. Its goal is to expose abuses within the Tunisian rentier system by raising collective awareness and collaborating with State institutions.
