Architects Support Children of IDPs Through Art Initiative

Ouagadougou: The president of the National Council of the Order of Architects of Burkina Faso, Ada Yaya Bocoum, chaired a charity evening in the city, marking the culmination of a project titled 'Stars, Canvases of Hope'. This initiative is designed to aid the children of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by providing them with a platform for artistic expression and raising funds to support their recovery.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project primarily aims to offer an outlet for children and women who have endured traumatic experiences. President Yaya Bocoum emphasized the transformative power of art during her opening speech, stating, "Architecture is an art, and we wanted to highlight hidden talents. These works allow us to externalize suffering and transform pain into hope."

The event saw participation from over 40 children, who, under the guidance of art professionals, created evocative paintings that reflect their emotions. The president assured that the funds raised from this exhibition would be channelled into community projects for IDPs, overseen by the Ministry of Humanitarian Action and National Health.

Dr. Fousseni Ou©draogo, the mission manager for the Minister for Humanitarian Action, praised the initiative, noting, "This project fits perfectly with our vision of resilience and empowerment of IDPs. We hope it will inspire other professions to follow this path." Ms. Bocoum expressed hope for future initiatives aimed at bolstering the resilience of vulnerable populations. She articulated, "Rebuilding yourself through artistic works means becoming the architect of your own life."

The 'Stars, Canvases of Hope' project underscores the potential of art as a catalyst for social change and national solidarity. It also celebrates human creativity and resilience. The charity evening represented the culmination of training sessions held in late May for IDPs in Panzani, Ouagadougou's 9th district.

According to the organizers, the paintings purchased during the event by participating partners will serve as working capital for the children of IDPs. This financial backing is intended to empower them to support their parents and peers in various income-generating activities, aligning with the government's vision of national solidarity in reclaiming the national territory.
