Banfora/ECDD Project: A day of recognition of endogenous animators

The Water Project, CLE du Développement Durable (ECDD) chose July 11, 2023, to magnify the contribution of endogenous facilitators through a ceremony punctuated by several acts including handovers of materials and certificates . This day also marked the launch of the activities of the 2023-2024 agricultural campaign of the ECDD project in the province of Comoé. The ceremony which was organized on the occasion in Siniéna in the municipality of Banfora, was chaired by Hamidou Idrissa MASSA, High Commissioner of Comoé in the presence of Arouna BADIEL, adviser in Agro economy of the ECDD project.

The objective of this day is to celebrate the endogenous animator by recognizing his merits and by valuing his contribution within the framework of the implementation of the ECDD project, specifically for the agricultural component.

During the ceremony, it was specifically a matter of awarding the most active, committed and efficient endogenous facilitators; encourage other endogenous animators to improve their performance and promote the “endogenous animator” approach for rural development.

Ramatou DIARRA the only female animator of ECDD in the province of Cascades, receiving the first prize from the hands of the High Commissioner of Comoé.

To this end, the three best endogenous animators each received special prizes consisting of agricultural inputs, seeds, a seeder for the 1st and 2nd. In addition, the first of the facilitators benefited from a tablet to strengthen the sharing and popularization of good practices.

It should be noted that all of the endogenous facilitators were awarded with a kit including, among other things, a wheelbarrow, a rake, a watering can, a shovel, a sprayer, a pair of gloves, a tarpaulin, etc.

As part of this project, there are a total of 15 endogenous facilitators, including 7 in the province of Comoé.

Alexix B. SOULAMA, head of the canton of Siniéna, welcomed the holding of this day in his city.

The ECDD project targets a total of 17 CLEs distributed in the 5 Water Agencies of Cascades, Gourma, Liptako, Mouhoun and Nakanbé.

The project targets households living in rural and semi-urban areas in its area of intervention, with particular emphasis on women and young people.

Hamidou Idrissa Massa High Commissioner of Comoé estimated that “between advice, animations, trainings and visits, the endogenous animators and animators give their time and their knowledge to accompany the agricultural households. They have become relays for technical service agents in the villages and on the farms”.

"This participatory and inclusive approach allows us to have interesting results of which we are proud" according to Hamidou Idrissa Massa High Commissioner of Comoé.

This is why he invited all the actors to show more ardor, courage and "flawless" resilience to succeed together and step by step in the challenge of food and nutritional security.

As a reminder, the ECDD project is implemented by the consortium composed of SNV Dutch Development Organization (which is the leader) and World Waternet – WWn over a period of 4 years, from December 2020 to November 2014, with funding of the Dutch Embassy.

The ECDD project aims to strengthen the capacities of institutions involved in water management such as Burkina Water Agencies (AE), Local Water Committees (CLE), municipalities and umbrella organizations. In this dynamic, these areas of intervention are based on the conservation of water and soil, the inclusive and sustainable management of water supply services, sanitation in rural areas and the promotion of resilient and sustainable family farming.

Endogenous animators; local supervisors!

The ECDD project therefore has four components, each with a specific objective and specific interventions. With regard to component 4 based on agriculture, one of the major challenges is to promote resilient and sustainable family farming.

To do this, the actions are based on three axes, which are: advice to family farms with the establishment of a sustainable input supply mechanism; facilitation of small producers to markets and financing; and the development and construction of structuring infrastructure for the benefit of rural households. An intervention strategy that aims to increase agricultural yields and cereal stocks in order to achieve food and nutritional security for poor households.

Applicants proud to have been celebrated!

To this end, several structures and actors have been identified, including endogenous facilitators to support the implementation of activities in the municipalities of intervention of the agricultural component.

“After more than two years of implementation of the ECDD project, very encouraging results have been obtained thanks to the actions of endogenous facilitators in several areas such as sustainable agriculture, the sustainable input supply system (SADI), the management of health risks, the establishment and operation of agri-business clusters, etc. » ; supported Landri Alex MILLOGO representative of the provincial direction of agriculture.

In order to ensure the sustainability of project actions, it is important to encourage endogenous facilitators for their performance and resilience.

Arouna BADIEL Agro-economy advisor for the ECDD project.

It is within this framework that the day of celebration of the endogenous animator falls.

According to Ramatou DIARRA, the only endogenous animator, resident in the commune of Moussodougou, the day which celebrates their contribution honors them in more ways than one and encourages them to persevere.

“It allows the population to get to know us and to know that we are willing to support producers”.

For Arouna BADIEL, "the project wanted this day, not only to recognize the efforts and all the work you do with the producers, but also to say that we were not mistaken in deciding to walk with you".

According to Mr. BADIEL, the mission begins now because the project ends in November 2024. He will say that “when that time comes, it will be up to you to open the floodgates of possibilities for producers. You will need to be able to orient, advise, guide and train on the best practices that improve agricultural production…”.

During this recognition ceremony, the High Commissioner officially launched the start of activities for the 2023-2024 agricultural campaign of the ECDD project in the Cascades province.
