Banwa: 145 IDPs benefit from seeds and agricultural inputs

145 internally displaced people benefited on Friday from seeds and agricultural inputs at the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Animal Resources and Fisheries of the Banwa.

The ceremony of handing over this gift was in the presence of the High Commissioner of Banwa Oumarou Sandwidi and some members of the constituted bodies of the province.

According to the Provincial Director in charge of Agriculture Madou Coulibaly, it is with a view to increasing yields that the State and its partners provide vulnerable producers each year with agricultural inputs at subsidized prices.

“Among these vulnerable people benefiting from this support, internally displaced persons (IDPs) occupy an important place. Thus 5% of the inputs are intended for them free of charge but on condition that they have production plots. For this agricultural campaign, the Banwa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources made available to IDPs a first allocation of 920 kg of seeds on July 8, 2023 and today July 21, 2023 a second allocation of 2,492 kg of seeds and 1,000 kg of NPK will be distributed to IDPs,” said Madou Coulibaly, provincial director in charge of agriculture.

The number of beneficiary IDPs is 145, including 47 women, and the choice of these beneficiaries was made in collaboration with the Provincial Directorate in charge of Banwa Humanitarian Action, according to Madou Coulibaly.

Oumarou Sandwidi, High Commissioner of the Banwa welcomed the presence of the IDPs and invited them to make good use of these seeds and inputs.

"The government is concerned about your situation because it is not easy. You should know that if other grants arrive, others who have not benefited for the moment will mainly have them for fertilizers", adds the High Commissioner to IDPs.

After these words, the High Commissioner handed over to the representative of the IDPs, the lot of seeds and inputs that will be shared between them.

The seeds consist of maize, sorghum, soybean and cowpea.

Amidou Ouédraogo, representative of the IDPs, is delighted with this endowment.

“Really I have no words except to thank the authorities, the High Commissioner and the agents of Agriculture. It is true that we had fields to cultivate but our wish is to return to our lands. We are 145 people and everyone will have a little for the portions of land we were able to have,” he said.
