Bazèga: He offers a chapel to his village, a 50-year-old promise

The Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Monseigneur Prosper Kontiébo, blessed on Sunday April 14, 2024 the Saint Augustin chapel in the village of Saré de Tuili in the commune of Kombissiri, province of Bazèga. The religious building is the fulfillment of a promise made to God, in 1976, by the faithful Prosper Tapsoba who at the time traveled around twenty km to follow his catechism classes. The Catholic faithful of the village of Saré in the canton of Tuili in the commune of Kombissiri, province of Bazèga now have a new place of prayer: the Saint Augustin chapel. The blessing of this new chapel by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Monseigneur Prosper Kontiébo, took place on Sunday April 14, 2024. He was thus making his first official outing since his appointment in the Saint Joseph Artisan parish of Kombissiri to which the chapel belongs. The Catholic faithful showed immense joy in welcoming their first leader and experiencing this historic event. Alongside the priests of the parish of Kombissiri and t hose from Ouagadougou, Monsignor Prosper Kontiébo, proceeded to bless the building and the objects which will be used for the liturgical celebration. During mass on this 3rd Sunday of Easter, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, in his homily, called the faithful to be witnesses of the risen Christ. He invited every Christian to conversion during this Easter period, to change their behavior to do the will of God. For Monsignor Prosper, the chapel is a place of meeting with God, a place of prayer, of listening to the word of God and of celebrating the sacraments. 'The blessing of this chapel is a grace because it manifests the presence of God in the midst of his people,' he said. The new chapel entrusted to the patronage of Saint Augustine, is a gift from Prosper Tapsoba, son of the village of Saré de Tuili. During the celebration, the Archbishop expressed his gratitude to the donor as well as to all those who contributed to the building of this house of God. The parish priest of Kombissiri, Erma ne Ouédraogo, says he is filled with feelings of joy and thanksgiving. Because, he says, 'the construction of a church constitutes an opportunity to enlarge the Church and its proximity to its sons and daughters'. He invited the faithful to make it a place of meeting with God and above all to take care of it. For donor Prosper Tapsoba, the idea of building this chapel is a promise made during his young age. 'At the time, in 1976, we were taking catechism classes in Kombissiri located about twenty kilometers from our village. I promised that one day I would build a church in my village so that children would no longer have to travel a long distance to receive the sacraments of baptism,' he testified. At this blessing of the chapel of Saré de Tuili, Monsignor Prosper Kontiébo, welcomed the strong mobilization of the faithful and the sons and daughters of the locality. He also welcomed the presence in the church of administrative and customary authorities and delegations from the Muslim and Protestant commu nities from the locality of Tuili.
