Bam: The mining company Bissa Gold planted more than 400 trees on its site in Sabcé on Thursday to commemorate World Environment Day 2025. The reforestation activity took place on the mine's tailings site, covering an area of 204 hectares.According to Burkina Information Agency, more than 400 seedlings were planted by Bissa Gold workers and local communities. The species planted include neem, eucalyptus, and mesquite, as part of a rehabilitation trial that Bissa Gold has undertaken to boost reforestation. For the environmental supervisor at Bissa Gold, Seydou Mahamadi Zono, these tree species were specifically chosen after an initial experiment in 2022. In that year, the mine planted 66 fruit trees, including mango and guava, but none survived. However, the neem and mesquite trees planted at the same time all survived and grew. The representative of the provincial director of Water and Forests of Bam, Lieutenant of Water and Forests Antoine Kabré, congratulated the mine managers for their initiative, whic h contributes to preserving the environment. According to him, the chosen period is favorable for planting these types of species. Lieutenant Kabré also invited Bissa Gold to continue regularly with such actions to reduce threats linked to environmental degradation.
