Burkina: More than 9,000 vulnerable children sponsored by the Ministry of Family in 2023

Ouagadougou: The ministry in charge of Family was able to sponsor 9,229 orphans for an amount exceeding 579 million FCFA during the year 2023, the AIB learned on Tuesday. 'In 2023, the Ministry in charge of Solidarity provided support for a total amount of 519,826,000 FCFA to 8,857 orphans and other vulnerable children, ie 3,670 boys and 5,187 girls,' indicates a press release from the Directorate General for Families and Children (DGFE) . According to the DGFE, this sponsorship, which resulted in the payment of school fees, also concerned children with disabilities and those victims of acts of terrorism in the 13 regions of Burkina. Furthermore, the Ministry in charge of Solidarity also paid the vocational training costs of 372 orphans and other vulnerable children, including 145 boys and 227 girls. The total amount of this support amounts to 60,173,000 FCFA. According to the same press release, financing for these sponsorships was provided by the State budget, through the National Solidarity and Social Resilience Fund (FNS-RS) and the National Council for Social Promotion (CNPS). The DGFE has also assured that monitoring-supervision teams have been deployed in the field to assess the living and study conditions of these beneficiaries.
