Ouagadougou, July 14, 2023 (AIB)-The Directorate of Archives and Documentation of the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security and the National Union of Archivists organized a day of reflection on Friday for the preservation administrative memory in times of conflict.

“Several public administration services across the national territory have experienced the destruction of their archives due to terrorism or various conflicts,” declared the secretary general of the ministry of territorial administration, Sié Edgard Sou, representative of the minister. .

Mr. Sou spoke on Friday in Ouagadougou on the occasion of a day of reflection for the preservation of administrative memory in times of conflict.

He pointed out that archives make it possible to constitute the history of administrations, civilizations and nations. They therefore constitute, according to him, a rich heritage to be preserved.

Sié Edgard Sou explained that the conservation of archives by natural or legal persons, in particular the services, establishments or organizations that hold them, is a legal obligation.

For the vice-president of the National Union of Archivists, Dramane Sanou, archives are "incorruptible" witnesses of human existence, guardians of history and the "best" legacies that can be passed on to generations. future.

It is therefore necessary, according to him, to develop initiatives for a better preservation of the memory of the different administrations because, he insists, the administrative memory constitutes the base on which the ministries and institutions, the companies are based to retrace their actions in time. and plan the axes of future development.

Mr. Sanou explained that this day of reflection aims to diagnose the impact of the security crisis on the administrative memory and identify avenues for preservation and preventive conservation of the memory of our administrations in this period of conflict.

He says he is convinced that the recommendations that will emerge from this reflection will constitute benchmarks to guide our future actions and strengthen our collective commitment to the preservation of our archives, even in the most difficult contexts.
