CNLCT publishes updated list of 148 individuals and entities linked to terrorism

Some 148 natural and legal persons and entities have featured in the national list of persons, organisations and entities linked to terrorist crimes, drawn up by the National Counter-Terrorism Commission (CNLCT).

This was announced to TAP on Saturday by Dhafer Ben Hamida, director of the unit within the Commission responsible for implementing United Nations resolutions on the prevention of terrorist financing.

He added that the list, which was published on the Commission’s website on January 11, includes two decisions to freeze the assets of two individuals classified as “highly dangerous”, namely Ameur Belazi and Alaeddine Ghazouani.

It stated that the implementation of the Commission’s decisions resulted in the freezing of funds and assets totalling TND 700,000.

The CNLCT carefully examines all requests for additions to the list of entities linked to terrorist crimes received from structures and competent authorities involved in the fight against terrorism, he added.

The list is reviewed every six mont
hs, and the number of individuals and entities on the blacklist linked to terrorism may fluctuate, Ben Hamida said.

No decision has been taken to remove any individual or organisation from this blacklist, since May 2023.

On the contrary, Ben Hamida announced that 59 decisions to renew asset freezes were published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) on Friday.

The decisions of the National Counter-Terrorism Commission can be challenged before the Administrative Court.
