Disability rights at heart of ISIE meeting with civil society organisations

The Independent High Authority for Elections (French :ISIE) held a meeting Tuesday with presidents and representatives of disability rights organisations. This was in the runup to the elections of the National Council of Regions and Districts. The meeting offered the opportunity for attendees to put forward their proposals on ways to secure an efficient communication action plan which the ISIE intends to launch in the coming days. The election authority's communication strategy is centered around a national symposium, regional seminars, awareness-raising campaigns on Decree No. 10 of March 8, 2023, on the elections of local councils and the composition of the councils of regions and districts. Emphasis was laid on the need to encourage persons with disabilities to exercise their right to vote and run in the next elections of local councils. ISIE President Farouk Bouasker hailed these civil society organisations for their efforts to champion the rights of people with disabilities and support the action of the election body. Participants commended ISIE's initative to convene this meeting. They also expressed readiness to make their logistical and human resources available to ensure the successful conduct of these seminars and attain the sought-after goals, mainly encouraging eligible candidates among people with disabilities to run in the elections of local councils.
