Double commemoration of Work Safety Day in Burkina

Ouagadougou: Burkina is commemorating this Tuesday in Ouagadougou the 22nd World Day for Safety and Health at Work (JMSST) concomitantly with the 28th African Day for the Prevention of Occupational Risks (JAPRP).The Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of Social Protection, Hamidou Sawadogo, chaired this Tuesday the commemorative ceremony of the 22nd World Day for Safety and Health at Work (JMSST) under the theme 'Impacts of climate change on safety and health at work' coupled with the commemoration of the 28th African Day for the Prevention of Occupational Risks (JAPRP) placed under the sign of 'safety and health at work in sectors with high risk potential: challenges and intervention strategies' .According to the Director General of Social Protection, Hamadou Kobanka, these two themes are more than challenging insofar as they are an invitation to define new challenges and new intervention strategies in terms of safety and health at work. in all sectors of activity and especially in the informal s ector and for self-employed workers.Recalling the recent tragedies that occurred in certain workplaces, notably the flooding of the Perkoa mine, the collapse of buildings at Donsin airport, at the Norbert Zongo University in Koudougou and in Ouagadougou, Mr. Kobanka invited the all actors to act in favor of the prevention of professional risks.He also indicated that beyond this commemoration, actions must be taken daily to considerably reduce work accidents and occupational illnesses in the workplace.The Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Service, Labor and Social Protection, Hamidou Sawadogo, delivering the speech of the Minister of State, Bassolma Bazié, indicated on these themes that the evolution of weather conditions has repercussions notable in the world of work.To do this, the Secretary General wished a speedy recovery to the victims of work accidents and occupational diseases.He also asked for a minute of silence in memory of all the workers who died on the development projects of B urkina Faso on the one hand and on the other hand, the victims of the terrorist attacks that our country has been facing for several years.During this commemoration, several activities will be organized.These include training, information and awareness-raising activities on the prevention of occupational risks for employers and workers, visits to workplaces, radio broadcasts, film screenings, consultation meetings between stakeholders and a popular cross country.Source: Burkina Information Agency
