Egypt’s Minister Engages African Ambassadors to Enhance Economic Integration and Development

Cairo: H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, recently convened with ambassadors from seven African nations, including Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Cameroon, Uganda, and Senegal. This meeting was part of the First Egyptian-African Economic Conference organized by 'Al-Ahram Hebdo' newspaper, themed 'The Africa We Want: Integration and Partnership for the Future.'According to African Press Organization, the gathering focused on advancing development across Africa and strengthening Egypt's relations with fellow African countries to address ongoing challenges. The discussions highlighted the importance of joint infrastructure projects, boosting trade, and fostering effective partnerships between private sectors.Dr. Rania Al-Mashat emphasized President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's commitment to enhancing cooperation and integration with African countries to forge a shared economic future. She underscored that collaborative African ef forts are essential to overcoming conflicts and building a development model grounded in expertise exchange.The Minister highlighted Egypt's dedication to fostering ties and integration within Africa, noting the continent's rich resources and potential significant role in the global economy. She reiterated Egypt's commitment to resolving disputes that hinder development and stressed the importance of joint action through the entry of the Egyptian private sector into infrastructure projects across Africa.Dr. Al-Mashat pointed out the significance of Joint Committees, such as the recent Egyptian-Algerian Joint Committee, in strengthening relations and exploring cooperative avenues. She also addressed the green transition and the continent's potential to become a hub for renewable energy, supported by partnerships with global institutions like the World Bank.The Minister also recognized the roles of the African Development Bank and other international bodies in promoting private sector involvement. She not ed Egypt's advocacy on the global stage, particularly through her roles at the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which has expanded its operations to include Sub-Saharan Africa.Furthermore, Dr. Al-Mashat announced the launch of a South-South and Triangular Cooperation Strategy in 2024 to enhance development solutions and build cross-border partnerships, reinforcing Egypt's historical role in supporting African interests.During the meeting, African ambassadors expressed their appreciation for President El-Sisi's efforts to promote joint African action and tackle the continent's challenges. They commended Minister Al-Mashat's economic diplomacy in international forums to amplify Africa's voice.The ambassadors proposed initiatives to boost inter-African tourism and enhance cooperation in education, health, communications, and governmental and private sector expertise exchange, leveraging Egypt's tourism networks to benefit other African nations.
