Energy transition and agricultural transformation in Africa requires financial and technological support (Samir Saïed)

The energy transition and agricultural transformation in Africa requires greater efforts, particularly in terms of technical, financial and technological support through bilateral or multilateral cooperation, said the Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Saïed. Speaking at the ministerial session of the 7th Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (Koafec) Ministerial Conference, held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from September 12 to 15, 2023, on the theme "Embracing a Sustainable Future: Just Energy Transition and Agricultural Transformation in Africa," the Minister added that African countries, which have enormous potential, are facing major development challenges that have increased in recent times. He added that the continent's countries have the potential to achieve a viable energy transition and an agricultural transformation that will ensure stability in terms of food security. The Minister reviewed the Tunisian government's programmes and targets in the area of carbon emissions and its plans to increase the share of renewable and alternative energies in energy consumption to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2050. He underlined the importance of the African Development Bank's (AfDB) role in supporting the continent's countries to gradually achieve a viable and equitable energy transition.
