France’s Total begins massive Uganda oil project

French energy giant Total has officially started on a $10 billion East Africa oil project that involves the construction of a 1,445-kilometre pipeline from landlocked Uganda to the Indian Ocean. The Paris-based company announced that an opening ceremony had been conducted in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Tuesday. Total holds the largest share in the project, with about 57%. Also involved are the China National Offshore Oil Corporation, at 28%, and the Uganda National Oil Company, at 15%.
