Ouagadougou , The General Confederation of Labor of Burkina (CGT-B) denounced on Monday “double standards” relating to freedom of expression in Burkina Faso.
“If all citizens are equal before the law, there is a “double standard”. It is rather this governance which allows some to do everything and which flouts the rights of others which is the source of aggravation of the social divide” declared the spokesperson for the General Confederation of Labor of Burkina (CGT-B) Nicolas Ouédraogo.
Mr. Ouédraogo, who was in front of the press on Monday, reported that individuals are occupying roundabouts in the commune of Ouagadougou and authorizing checks on other citizens.
Listening to him, his structure wonders if they have authorization from the President of the special delegation (PDS) of Ouagadougou Maurice Konaté to occupy the said places.
“If there is a real threat weighing on social cohesion and which challenges the PDS, it is this tendency to give certain citizens all the rights, in particular that of illegally occupying intersections and demonstrating without authorization”, he continued.
For the spokesperson, in view of the inconsistencies noted, the organizations denounce the partisan attitude of the special delegation of the municipality of Ouagadougou and call on it to ensure equitable management of citizens in the territory under its jurisdiction.
Nicolas Ouédraogo also deplored the massive requisitions of citizens to go to the front of the anti-terrorist fight.
On April 19, 2023, the Transition adopted a law on general mobilization and warning to contribute to the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso.
“We note that since its adoption, it has been used, not to contribute to the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso but to repress any person expressing an opinion on the current management of our country and who does not meet with the consent of the powerful of the moment,” he said
The coalition spokesperson called on their activists and sympathizers, the country's democrats, who love justice and peace, and the entire Burkinabè people to organize themselves to resist "arbitrariness and all forms of demonstration of injustices.”
Mr. Ouédraogo invited them to remain attentive to any slogans that the evolution of the situation requires.
