Gafsa tops list of governorates in number of protests in April (Observatory)

Tunis: The governorate of Gafsa topped the list of governorates where protests took place in April for the fourth consecutive month, according to data published by the Tunisian Social Observatory on social justice protests in April. The governorate of Gafsa recorded 58 social justice protests in April, more than 65% of which were related to the right to work, followed by the governorate of Tunis with 39 protests, Nabeul with 19 protests, Kairouan (14) and Jendouba (12), most of which were led by the local farmers. According to the Tunisian Social Observatory, under the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), the number of protests rose by 9% in April, with 195 compared to 179 in March. Demands to regularise the situation of substitute teachers dominated protest activity, accounting for half of the social justice protests registered in April 20-24.
