Gulmu: Governor Ram Kafando officially launched the 2025 Regional Culture Week (RCW) competitions in Fada N'Gourma on Thursday. This pre-selection stage aims to prepare for the 22nd National Culture Week (NCW), scheduled for April 26 to May 2, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso. A total of 316 artists and athletes will represent the region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Eastern SRC will be held from September 18 to 20, 2025, under the theme "Culture, Youth and Transmission of Social Values." The event will facilitate the selection of the best troupes, traditional wrestlers, archers, and culinary artists to represent the region at the next SNC.
Governor Ram Kafando praised the commitment of the participants and organizers, recalling the distinctions already obtained by the region in previous editions despite challenges. He highlighted the representation of all provinces this year, attributing it to the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). He encouraged competitors to give their best to honor the vital forces of Gulmu.
The representative of the King of Gulmu, Diebado, emphasized social cohesion and patriotism, offering blessings for peace, security, and favorable rainfall in the region and in Burkina.
SNC Secretary General Kohoun Lansa Moise highlighted the role of Regional Culture Weeks in promoting national unity. He introduced new features, including an extended preparation period between pre-selections and the SNC, opening certain competitions to the Burkinabe diaspora in Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, and Niger, and a repechage system in ballet and choreographic creation categories.
The Gulmu Regional Culture Week is set to be a platform for showcasing artistic and sporting talents, while contributing to the promotion of peace and community cohesion.
