Houet/Bobo-Dioulasso International Airport: Minister Somda satisfied with the rehabilitation works

The Minister of Transport, Urban Mobility and Road Safety, Roland Somda, said he was satisfied, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, with the rehabilitation work at the Bobo-Dioulasso International Airport. Dioulasso, which are progressing according to schedule and safety standards.

“We were able to note with satisfaction that the existing infrastructures are being completely renovated,” declared the Minister in charge of Transport, Roland Somda.

The Minister spoke on Tuesday, in Bobo-Dioulasso, at the end of his visit to the site of the Bobo-Dioulasso International Airport, to immerse himself in the progress of the rehabilitation works of the said airport, in order to achieve certification.

This involves the redevelopment of the passenger terminal, the indoor and outdoor walkway, the installation of new safety equipment and the modernization of certain infrastructures.

Accompanied by a team of experts and representatives of the airport, the Minister was able to observe the progress of the site.

Mr. Somda praised the state of progress of the works in progress and underlined their importance for the economic development of the Hauts-Bassins region.

"The completion of this work will allow the implementation of the "H24" service, that is to say the implementation of permanent flights 24 hours a day, the launch of which is scheduled for April 20, 2023", he added. He specifies.

He said that the development of the economic capital of Burkina Faso will experience a boom with the development of these infrastructures.

Minister Somda also visited the airport's freight hangar to ensure the effective start of the 2023 mango campaign from where around 47 tonnes of mangoes have already been exported.

According to the Director General (DG) of the National Civil Aviation Agency of Burkina Faso (ANAC), Dr. Thomas Hyacinthe Compaoré, airborne infrastructures must comply with standards that guarantee safety during their use.

That is why, he said, these works were launched in order to demonstrate the airport's ability to accommodate aircraft of all kinds in complete safety.

"With the upgrading of this airport, which will respect all operating standards, our country is in a position to confirm its economic recovery from Bobo-Dioulasso airport", indicated the DG of ANAC.

To listen to the managing director of the international airports of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, Ibrahim Koné, everything is ready to start the permanent flight service (H24).

“A lot of things have already been done. There was a recruitment to strengthen the staff and the development of procedures to be implemented,” he cited as short-term achievements for the launch of the H24 service.

Mr. Koné added that as far as long-term achievements are concerned, they are spread out until the end of December 2023.

For his part, the first vice-president of the Hauts-Bassins Regional Special Delegation, Mahamadou Barry, expressed his satisfaction at seeing the effectiveness of this work, which is an added value for the Hauts-Bassins region.

“These works were requested by all the regional authorities from the Head of State. The whole region is grateful,” he said.
